Lady Gaga looks like she was fished out of the Gulf of Mexico right after the massive oil spill in a new magazine shoot that has her posing as an oil-slicked mermaid.

Gaga, 25, is bare breasted under the black goo, not that you can tell because of the heavy coating. The photos appear in an art magazine called Visionaire 61.

Famed photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the photos.

Her hair is long, flowing and blonde streaked with red, white and blue. She’s also returned to the ridged cheekbone look.

Did Lady Gaga miss an opportunity to take a stand for the world’s exploited oceans?

But Gaga appears to have missed out on her chance to send a strong environmental message about polluting the oceans in the wake of the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

Her quote to accompany the photos was: “There is no oil too thick as to destroy the imagination.”

Which, you know, is good… but, ah, wouldn’t a stand against ocean pollution be more meaninful?

Lady Gaga unveiled her mermaid look, which she call Yuyi, in her video for the song “You and I.”

She drew some heat, however, because she did a routine as the mermaid in a wheelchair that was a knock off of an old Bette Midler routine.

Don’t expect to find the magazine at Wal-Mart. The standard size edition sells for $375 and only 2,500 copies have been printed.

The Deluxe Edition, which is the largest magazine every published, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, sells for $1,500.

It’s almost five feet wide by 6-feet, 7-inches tall and only 250 copies have been printed.

The publication says its size gives “iconic artists and image-makers the forum to take their visions to a massive scale.”

Top fashion photographers Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti and Bruce Weber, British artist Sam Taylor-Wood, and Director Ridley Scott have also contributed to the publication.
