Her song, which has yet to be released, will be featured on the soundtrack on Walt Disney Records.
Four-time Academy Award nominee Danny Elfman is writing the movie’s score.
Pink’s cover version of the iconic “White Rabbit” will be used for the film’s marketing campaign.
The song has a history all it’s own. It became a counterculture anthem when Jefferson Airplane performed it at the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in 1969. Although the song is more than 40 years old, it still resonates.
Lead singer Grace Slick wrote and recorded the song for Jefferson Airplane’s 1967 album, Surrealistic Pillow. She originally performed it with her band Great Society.
Slick drew her inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 classic book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and its 1871 sequel “Through the Looking-Glass.”
At the time, the books were meant to be biting social satire. But they became childrens’ classics despite the obvious drug references.
Of note, Slick’s song, a play on the mind-altering psychedelic drugs in vogue during the ’60s, was the first to slip drug references passed radio censors.
“Alice Through the Looking Glass” is a sequel to Disney’s 2010 hit “Alice in Wonderland.” Disney first produced the film in animated form in 1951, which became a classic.
The 2010 film, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
The new film opens in U.S. theaters on May 27.
