Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson are anchoring “Down Cemetery Road,” a new Apple TV+ crime thriller that’s loaded with suspense — and dry British wit.

The first trailer for the eight-part mini-series debuted today (Sept. 29) showcasing Thompson, a private investigator, and Wilson, her semi-clueless neighbor. Both are drawn into the mystery by a neighborhood tragedy.

A house explodes in Sarah Trafford’s (Wilson)  quiet Oxford suburb and a girl can’t be found in the aftermath. Sarah becomes obsessed with the case and hires Zoë Boehm (Thompson) to get to the bottom of it.

Of course, there’s more than meets the eye. Zoë and Sarah are suddenly up to their necks in a complex conspiracy. People long thought dead are still alive, while the living are taken out one-by-one.

The ensemble cast includes BAFTA Award winners Adeel Akhtar, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Emmy Award nominee Tom Goodman-Hill, BAFTA Award winner Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, SAG Award nominees Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun and Aiysha Hart.

The series is based on British author Mick Herron’s novel of the same name, from his “Zöe Boehm” book series; think Jessica Fletcher from “Murder She Wrote” with the dash of Emma Peale from “The Avengers.”

Apple TV+ viewers should know Herron from the series “Slow Horses,” also based on his work, on the streaming service. The Emmy Award-winning spy drama was recently renewed for a seventh season in advance of the fifth season premiere on Sept 24.

“Slow Horses” is based on Herron’s celebrated “Slough House” book series and stars Academy Award winner Sir Gary Oldman.

The first two episodes of “Down Cemetery Road” will debut on Oct. 29 followed by new episodes every Wednesday through December 10. Check out the trailer below!
