Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law reprise their roles a Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson and a new trailer provides a glimpse of them in action in the Guy Ritchie sequel “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”
This time, Holmes and his sidekick are going after the real deal, the diabolical Professor Moriarty, played by Jared Harris.
The film also stars Noomi Rapace, who created the iconic Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
Rachel McAdams is also returning to the film, although initially it was reported that she wouldn’t be in the sequel.
After the surprise success of the first film, it grossed $533 million worldwide, Warner Bros. put the sequel on a fast track, and it will hit theaters in December.
The film takes place a year after the events of the first film, which left off with Moriarty pulling the strings behind-the-scenes, after the death of nefarious Lord Henry Blackwood.
But the film stands on its own and doesn’t require knowledge of the first movie.
The clip opens with a collage of scenes showing Downey as Holmes, flashing through a ball and what looks like an assassination attempt, although on who is not shown.
The film looks to be action packed, full of explosions, plot twists and several exotic locales as Holmes tracks the most “formidable criminal mind in Europe.”
No less than the fate of Western Civilization hangs in the balance.
The trailer also highlights the movie’s impressive special effects. It opens Dec. 16. Check out the trailer below:
