Gwen Stefani is still a rock chick who knows how to work a stage, even at the advanced age (for rock chicks) of 46. She returned to NBC’s “The Voice” to perform her new single “Misery,” a power ballad reportedly inspired by new boyfriend Blake Shelton.

The camera cut to Shelton with a smile a mile wide during the performance and also showed Christina Aguilera, looking as smug as a bug in a rug.

Aguilera left the show in 2012 to promote her then-new album Lotus on tour and was initially replaced by Latin singer Shakira. Aguilera returned but left again in 2014 during season 7 when she became pregnant.

Stefani replaced her and proved to be popular and highly charismatic. Fans kicked up a storm when NBC announced that Aguilera would return for Season 8.

Stefani was booted from the show. By then, though, she was already in a romance with Shelton. Both the singers were in the throes of a divorce.

But she returned earlier this season in guest appearance as a Team Blake adviser, and she sings a duet, “Go Ahead And Break My Heart” on the Shelton’s upcoming album.

So love counts.

“Misery” is the third single from her latest album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like. She sang the song live for the first time on “Saturday Night Live,” earlier this month. She is gearing up for a tour this summer to promote her No. 1 album.

Gwen proved she’s no slouch on stage even at 46. Known for her energetic stage performances, she looked like she was in touring form and ready to hit the road.
