The Gala theme this year was fashion, orchestrated by Parker, who is on the Ballet’s Board of Directors.
Natalie Portman, accompanied by normally camera shy French choreographer and husband Benjamin Millepied, who staged a new ballet, with Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. Music was by Nico Muhly.
Millepied has been named Director Of Dance at the Paris Opera Ballet starting next year. He danced with the New York City Ballet from 1995 to 2011.
New York City Ballet soloist Justin Peck showcased costumes by Prabal Gurung with his new ballet. The dance was set to Lukas Foss’ “Capriccio” for Cello and Piano.”
Choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, worked his magic with Olivier Theyskens; John Cage composed the music.
Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, who is often featured in TheImproper’s Fashion Section, walked the red carpet with her husband, DJ Sunnery James.
Drew Barrymore, 38, also added Hollywood glitter and gave a subtle hint that she may be bearing her second child. The 38-year-old has a daughter Olive who turns one Sept. 26.
Martha Stewart, 72, walked the red carpet in a pantsuit and oversized jacket staple.
The ballet’s four-week fall season will run from Sept. 17 through Oct. 13 at the David H. Koch Theater.
