Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga teamed up for a duet on the finale of ‘The Voice,’ where Christina serves as a judge.
The album’s seventh track has been described variously as synthpop and R&B with an overlay of ’80s-style synths and electronic dance beats.
Gaga worked on the song for more than two years with Kelly, Paul “DJ White Shadow” Blair, Martin Bresso and William Grigahcine. She crafted the final version earlier this year and decided to include it on Artpop, her third studio album.
Gaga said the album is one of her most “personal” yet, and touches on her views about fame, love, sex, feminism, self-empowerment, overcoming addiction and her reactions to intense media scrutiny, according to several interviews.
On “Do What U Want” the 27-year-old singer is trying to make a statement that her thoughts, dreams, and feelings are her own, no matter what she does with someone or what anyone says about her body.
With Aguilera on the track, the record becomes almost an anthem for female empowerment. Lady Gaga holds her own on the studio recording, but Aguilera definitely remakes the song with her crystal-clear, four octave vocal range.
