“When we opened Barclays Center 13 months ago, Billy was one of the must-have artists for our building and we are thrilled that he will be ringing in the New Year on Brooklyn’s biggest stage,” said Center Chief Executive Brett Yormark in a statement announcing the appearance.
Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, the quintessential home boy didn’t disappoint his fans. He put on a sharp performance, including his hit “You May Be Right” from his 1980 album Glass Houses. (See Below)
Joel was sidelined in 2010 while he recovered from a double hip replacement. He marked his return with a benefit show at Madison Square Garden for Hurricane Sandy relief in December. 2012.
The 64-year-old singer released his first song, “Piano Man,” in 1973 and hasn’t looked back. The track was an instant hit and has become one of rock’s memorable classics.
He’s battled depression most of his life as well as bouts of alcoholism and excessive drinking. but has proved to be one of rocks’ survivors. Joel will perform several concerts in various cities throughout January and February.
