“The Hunger Games’ cast has been filming together since 2011. Lawrence was picked for the role of Katniss Everdeen out of nearly 30 other actresses who auditioned for the role, including Hailee Steinfeld, Emma Roberts, Chloë Grace Moretz and Shailene Woodley.

Hutcherson was tapped to play Peeta Mellark and Hemsworth was cast to play Gale Hawthorne.
Peeta is the male tribute representing District 12 in the 74th annual Hunger Games with Katniss. When the break the rules and both survive, they unwittingly incite a rebellion.
Gale grew up with Katniss in District 12; both their fathers were killed in the same mining accident. Gale falls in love with Katniss, and the heroine says he is one of the few people who can make her smile. They both join the rebellion together and are assigned to the special squad tasked with assassinating President Snow.

Needless to say, filming on the movie involved some intense scenes.
The first film, “Hunger Games,” debuted in Feb. 2012 and two other films followed, “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Hunger Games, Mockingjay, Part 1.” The final film, “Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2,” kicks off the holiday movie season on Nov. 20.
