The Golden Globes wouldn’t be the Golden Globes without its moments of bloviating, posturing and truly cringe-worthy moments. But Christian Bale went over the top with his shout out to Satan in his acceptance speech.
The 44-year-old actor scooped the Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy award on Sunday (Jan. 6) for his portrayal of former US Vice President Dick Cheney in the movie “Vice.”
“Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role,” he joked, referring to Chaney’s reputation as a master of darkness in the George W. Bush administration.
Then he called the “Vice” director a “geezer” for revealing how Bale got the role.
‘I’ve got to be somebody who can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody’. So he went, ‘Oh, that’s got to be Bale,” he quoted the director as saying.
“I will be cornering the market on charisma-free assholes. What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That would be good, wouldn’t it?” Bale continued.
Bale gained 40 pounds and shaved his head and bleached his eyebrows for the role. Physical transformation is always a plus when it comes to awards consideration.
The actor, known for his explosive temper, also thanked his wife for her advice: “Less is more,” she told. him.
“She knows the dumb crap that can come out of my life sometimes. I can sink and ruin a perfectly good movie and a so-so career in one speech, so thank you for that advice, my love. I wouldn’t be working without her.”
Also competing for the award were John C. Reilly for “Stan & Ollie,”, Lin-Manuel Miranda for “Mary Poppins Returns,” Robert Redford for “The Old Man & the Gun” and Viggo Mortensen for “Green Book.”
Chrissy Metz called Alison Brie ‘Bitch’ during Red Carpet Interview
Chrissy Metz was caught on an open mic calling Alison Brie a bitch after Facebook Live pre-show hosts AJ Gibson and Missi Pyle tried to cut to another interview.
Gibson set up the scene with a clumsy segue. “Do you know a girl named Alison Brie?” she asked Metz.
Chrissy, caught by surprise, simply said: “Do I?”
Then host replied: “Well, I hear she’s at the other end of the carpet,” the host replied. “Let’s go see Alison Brie.”
The 38-year-old actress then uttered. “I’m like, ‘Do I?’ She’s such a bitch.'”
The camera quickly cut to Yvette Nicole Brown who was standing by with Alison.
The former ‘Community’ actress appeared baffled when she heard about the perceived slight.
Vanity Fair reporter Nicole Sperling tweeted: “Just asked Alison Brie about this. She had not heard about Metz’s comments and seemed very confused by the entire matter. “But why?,” she asked. “I know her. I saw her on the carpet and I told her how beautiful she looked.”
The 36-year-old actress later posted a photo of herself and Chrissy at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on her Instagram Story and wrote: “Nothing but love for @chrissymetz!! Rumors can’t keep us down.”
The ‘American Horror Story’ actress has now tweeted about her supposed comments, insisting she would “never say a bad word” about anyone.
Chrissy posted: “It’s terribly unfortunate anyone would think much less run a story that was completely fabricated.”
“I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone! I sure hope she knows my heart.”

Richard Madden brought Parents to Golden Globes
Richard Madden may be a 32 year old actor, but he’s still a mommy’s and daddy’s boy.
Mom Pat and dad Richard were on hand as he picked up the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama.
“My parents are here,” he announced to the crowd. “I’m kind of living it through them and they’re like, ‘What the hell! So it’s all very exciting.”
Madden won the award for his part as David Budd in BBC drama “Bodyguard.”
“I’m blown away that so many people have enjoyed it and watched it. It’s amazing for me. It’s such an amazing crew that worked really really hard for five months … I think there’s lots of great talent working really hard to make great television,” he told reporters
Richard gave a shout out to his parents in his acceptance speech and thanked them for coming all the way from their home in Scotland.
” I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the amazing crew and cast that made ‘Bodyguard’ that worked very hard over the course of five months to make this show. And most importantly, my friends and my family and mom and dad who flew all the way from Scotland. I wouldn’t be here without you,” he said.

Melissa McCarthy brought thirty sandwiches to the Golden Globe Awards
Melissa McCarthy wasn’t about to let anyone around her go hungry during the lengthy awards show. The Golden Globes is known to be a boozy affair, but food is another matter.
The 48-year-old actress smuggled dozens of individually wrapped ham and cheese sandwiches from popular eatery “Joan’s on Third,” a specialty food marketplace and restaurant into the Beverly Hilton hotel.
“I’ve been handing them out to everyone,” McCarthy told Variety. “Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs.”
Dinner is served before the show airs. Many stars are still meandering on the red carpet and miss their meals. Jessica Chastain, for one, thought Melissa’s idea was brilliant.
“How did she get them in here?” she mused. “But it’s a good idea because by the time you get into the ballroom dinner has already been served, and you’re always so hungry.”
Olivia Colman, made a reference to the snack as she took to the stage to accept the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy prize for her role in “The Favorite.”
She said: “I’m not going to cry because my whole table will laugh at me. Thank you for the sandwiches.”

Jeff Bridges Urged People to ‘Make a difference” and Move ‘Towards Love’
Jeff Bridges gave an inspiring speech after he picked up the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes.
The 69-year-old actor singled out engineer and architect Buckminster Fuller, whom he dubbed Bucky, as part of a metaphor for how all of humanity is connected.
“I think of myself as a trim tab and all of us are trim tabs. It may seem that we’re not up to the take, but we are, man. we’re alive! We can make a difference! We can turn this ship in the way we wanna go, man! Towards love, to creating a healthy planet for all of us. You’re all trim tabs! Tag, you’re it!”
The ‘Big Lebowski’ star also revealed he had come prepared with a special tribute to his father, actor Lloyd Bridges.
“Wearing your cuffs, dad. Wearing your cuff links,” he said.
He kept it a family affair by also thanking his brother, fellow actor Beau Bridges, and sister Cindy, and said they were “lucky” to have Lloyd and their mother Dorothy as their parents.
He went on to pay tribute to his wife Susan Geston.
“I gotta thank my sweetheart, Sue. My god, 45 years of support and love, I wouldn’t be up here without you me dear.”
“Hell or High Water” co-star Chris Pine presented the award. He said he bonded with Bridges over their “mutual love of caftans and Turkish sandals,” and both “having wonderful showbiz fathers.”
He then introduced his friend to the stage and described him as a “truly a kind and wonderful gentleman.”
Frank Sinatra, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Robin Williams, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey have also won the Cecil B. DeMille award.
Regina King Vowed to Hire More Women on Her Projects
In a passionate speech at the Golden Globe Awards, Regina King called for others “in a position of power” to pledge, as he has, to have an equal gender split on everything she produces.
King won Best Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture award for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk.”
“I just want to say that I’m going to use my platform right now to say in the next two years, everything that I produce, I’m making a vow — it’s going to be tough — to make sure that everything that I produce that is 50% women,” she said.
“And I just challenge anyone out there — anyone out there who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, in all industries — I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same.”
At one point, the ceremonial music began to play to end Regina’s speech, but she ignored it until the music was cut off and she finished her remarks.
Mahershala Ali wins his first Award After Second Nomination
The second time around was the charm for Mahershala Ali. He was nominated in 2017 for his role in “Moonlight,” but picked up his first award Sunday night for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture.
He played famed jazz pianist Don “Doc” Shirley in “Green Book.”
“I have to thank my wife, my mother, and my grandmother. I thank you for your prayers. I’ve needed each and every one of them. Peace,” he said.
He also paid tribute to his “extraordinary scene partner,” Viggo Mortensen and co-star Linda Cardellini as a “beautiful person.”
The actor went on to stress how he and everyone else who worked on the movie had put a lot of energy into the project and he doesn’t want to “throw away” what they have done.
“I respect the family … and Doc Shirley. I spoke to the studio and the family and at the end of the day you wish everyone was happy and you don’t want to offend anyone in any capacity.”
Michael Douglas dedicated his Golden Globe win to his father Kirk Douglas
Michael Douglas reached out to his dad, legendary actor Kirk Douglas, in his acceptance speech for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy in “The Kominsky Method.”
“The truth be told, I owe all of this to one man out there — Mr. Chuck Lorre. Chuck thinks getting old is funny. Thank you for your exquisite work.
“And I guess this has to go to my 102-year-old father, Kirk.”
Backstage, Douglas said his dad had given him the best piece of advice he’d ever received. “Stamina and tenacity. He was out of the school where you get your best shot, you walk away after you’ve done the best you can. Then fuck it! That’s the best advice I got.”
