Alec Baldwin has explained almost every facet of his role in the death of Halyna Hutchins, but he’s taking his campaign to a new level.
The 63 year old actor, who pulled the trigger on a prop gun that had a live round killing Hutchins, has released an in-depth video update.
“I’ve been having some very interesting phone calls with some very interesting people,” he said.
“Some of them rather well-known people who deal in all kinds of behavioral, philosophical, religious, spiritual, meditation, all kinds of ways to attain a state of mind where you really short-circuit a lot of the negative in your life.
And that’s what I want.”
“My goal in the new year is peace, awareness, consciousness, deepening my relationships with the people that I love, pulling them closer to me, and improving relationships with people I care about but maybe I don’t get to see much of them anymore,” he said.
He calls the incident on the set of his Western movie “Rust” last year “the worst situation” he’s “ever been involved with.”
The video is mostly a reflection and self-musing on on 2021. He thanks fans and other for “so much goodwill from people.”
The tragedy took a political twist when some hard-right commentators tried to use the incident to slam Baldwin for his years as a liberal activist and Donald Trump critic.
Baldwin hilariously spooofed Trump on the late-night comedy sketch show “Saturday Night Live,” with a spot on cariacture of the ex-president.
Donald Trump Jr. has been one of the leading critics. He was lambasted on social media for selling T-shirts on his website that mock the fatal shooting.
“Let’s all watch Alec Baldwin blame the gun,” Trump Jr. posted on Instagram with a doctored Homer Simpson meme.
In another tasteless meme, Trump Jr. posted, “That look when an anti gun nut kills more people with a gun than your extensive firearm collection ever has.”
Trump also promoted the shirt on Instagram with a doctored image of Baldwin.
“Screw all the sanctimony I’m seeing out there. If the shoe was on the other foot Alex Baldwin would literally be the first person pissing on everybody’s grave trying to make a point. F*ck him!” Trump Jr. angrily wrote in response to critcism.
Baldwin said he was practicing drawning his gun for a scene under Hutchins direction to work on camera angles. The gun went off when he released the hammer.
A follow up investigation showed Baldwin thought the gun was empty, described on the set as a “cold gun.”
“I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous of spirit than I’ve had people who are malignant about the death Halyna Hutchins,” Baldwin said.
“I’m not afraid to say that, and to couch that in some euphemisms — somebody died very tragically. And I’ve gotten so much, I mean so much, goodwill from people. It’s just incredible.
“This has been surely the worst situation I’ve ever been involved with and I’m very hopeful that the people in charge with investigating this whole thing get to the truth as soon as possible. No one wants the truth more than I do.”
The ‘It’s Complicated’ star went on to reveal that his goal for 2022 is to leave behind the “negativity” that affects him.
Alec explained how he has been in touch with some “well-known people about different ways to “attain a state of mind” that has no place for negative thoughts, including meditation.
“The one thing I do want to consider very carefully in this coming year and to really push myself is in terms of trying to not allow the negativity in my life to affect me, the actor continued.
