Perez Hilton in charge of finding the next boy band made up of singing and dancing 13- to 21-year-olds? That sounds like a recipe for disaster. But “American Idol” founder Simon Fuller thinks it’s a dandy idea for the “Queen of all Media.”
Hilton, Fuller and Jamie King, who directed Madonna’s last four tours among others for top stars, are teaming up to launch the search for the next great Boy Band.
“I am beyond thrilled,” says the flamingly gay Hilton, also known as Mario Lavenderia. “Finding our talented group won’t be easy, but the end result is going to be soooooooo worth it. I can hear the screaming girls already!”
Funny, we can hear him screaming, too.
In any event, King says in the same statement the opportunity is “huge” for the next generation of performers to create a spectacle, with kick-ass dance moves, amazing voices and mind-blowing concert skills.”
Boy bands have always been at the heart of pop culture with huge potential to excite a massive audience both here in the States and the rest of the world, adds Fuller.“With Jamie and Perez at the helm we have a real focus on what we are looking for. Together we will do everything to ensure that whoever is discovered becomes one of the most successful groups in recent years,” Fuller promises.
No fat television contract seems to be in the works. Instead, the producers will search for undiscovered talent through online auditions at boybandsearch
But wait! You must be a boy between 13- and 21-years-old and be able to both sing and dance. Sorry no girls need apply, which is odd, since Hilton’s web site audience skews heavily toward females. (What’s with that?)
For the online audition, each performer should prepare two pop/rock songs that shows off his voice also including a prepared dance routine or freestyle performance to show individual rhythm and moves.
The web site had all the details, rules and technical requirements, but all submissions must be in by March 3, 2010.
So hurry up parents, Perez Hilton can’t wait to meet your kids!
