Taylor Swift is a big fan of “The Hunger Games.” Who knew? She’s just revealed she’s contributed a song to “The Hunger Games” soundtrack. Wait doesn’t the movie deal with teenage murder and mayhem?

The country music queen announced her role in the soundtrack late Thursday (Dec. 22) with a Tweet. “Something I’ve been VERY excited about for a VERY long time is going to be happening VERY soon,” she wrote.

The Hunger Games is a hugely popular book by Suzanne Collins that’s written in first person the eyes of Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old caught up in a post-apocalyptic world of savagery and brutality.

The highly anticipated film adaption has been in the works for the past year and will star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

One boy and girl between 12 and 18 are chosen from 12 districts that make up the resource challenged nation of Panem. They must fight to death in the Hunger Games, a ruthless competition in which only one survives.

The movie, which is being hailed as the next “Twilight,” will include at least two sequels, since the book is a trilogy.

Swift collaborated with alt-folk duo The Civil Wars, and film music producer T Bone Burnett to produce the song The song, “Safe and Sound.”

It’s a quiet ballad that drifts along as Swift sings about confronting fears and the hope for a better tomorrow.

no one can hurt you now, she sings.

Swift isn’t known for hard edges or slasher songs, so “Safe and Sound” is right in character with her. As for the movie, well that’s another matter.

The film also stars Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Willow Shields as Primrose Everdeen, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.

Burnett and James Newton Howard are scoring the movie, and Swift’s song is the first off the sound track.
