Stormy Daniels, the adult film star best known for her sex tryst hush-money payoff from Donald Trump, made her debut as a stand-up comic and managed to irk one key audience demographic–other stand-up comedians.

She did a two-show, one night-only comedy routine at the Joke Joint Comedy Showcase in Houston Wednesday (Mar. 20).

    And… the reviews are in.

She apparently knows a joke when she sees one, she just can’t tell it very well, according to comments from other comedians and Laugh Factory owner Jerry Masada.

“To be a successful stand-up comic, you have to please thousands of people at one time. Someone who is used to pleasing one person at a time, may have difficulty adjusting to this challenge,” said Masada in a statement.

Laurie Kilmartin, a comedian and writer for Conan O’Brien, shared her sentiment. “Doing stand-up is not a reward for being famous. Please leave the weekend gigs for actual female comics,” she Tweeted.

Daniels had an appropriate response. “I had no idea that comedians were such little bitches,” she stated.

The adult film star’s career has soared since she was outed for receiving a $130,000 in hush money from President Trump. She was paid on the eve of the 2016 election to keep quiet about their one-night stand a decade ago.

Trump’s lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations related to the payout. He was sentenced to three years in prison and Trump surfaced as an unindicted co-conspirator, the infamous “Individual 1.”

Daniels became one of the 10 most Googled people in 2018, behind Meghan Markle. Needless to say, she’s drawn standing-room-only crowds at live strip-tease performances around the country.

So why not stand up comedy? Anything that puts her on a stage is sure to draw an audience. But comedians are very particular about their craft.

“The full house was definitely leaning towards the older side of the age spectrum and, while there appeared to be some families in attendance, the audience also seemed to skew to the strip-club-goer variety, if the questions were any indication,” said Masada.

“It remains to be seen how Stormy Daniels will approach her comedy future, if she even decides she wants to have one.”

For her part, Daniels was nothing if not self-effacing. Not that she didn’t have plenty of material to work with.

“I really like lying down more than this,” she told the crowd. “They should be gentle,” she said of her critics. “It’s my first time… I didn’t think I’d ever get to use those words again.”

Daniels began stripping at 17, after she was convinced to perform a “guest set” while visiting a friend at a strip club. She segued into adult films in her early 20s and never looked back. She’s won numerous industry awards for her acting and has also directed.

She met Trump in 2006 at a Lake Tahoe golf event. He invited her to his room. She was interested in appearing on his popular show “The Apprentice;” he was interested in sex.

Daniels said she agreed to sleep with him and considered it sort of a “handshake” to cement her desire to be on his show. She later described the sex as conventional and uneventful.

She had this to say about the President. “He really just kind of squeaked or grunted like you would have imagined. It was really unintelligible…”

“Did Trump scream your name, or his during sex?” one audience member shouted.

Daniels admitted she prepared very little for her routine and planned to mainly take audience questions.

She ended up telling stories from her life and career. They ran from her early days stripping in small-town Louisiana to her foray as an adult film director.

And, how about this one-liner: “First of all, thank you for coming—which has a completely different meaning than my other job.”

Not exactly material you’d expect to hear from Jerry Seinfeld.

“It remains to be seen how Stormy Daniels will approach her comedy future, if she even decides she wants to have one,” says Masada.

“Comedy is not as easy as good comedians make it look,” he adds. “I asked Richard Pryor what makes a good comedian, and he said, ’10 years of stage time!'”
