Dua Lipa released her much anticipated Calvin Harris collaboration, “One Kiss,” and it’s perfect for a lost night in a dance club. The beat is hard to dismiss and Lipa’s voice is melodically hypnotic… so what else?
The new Harris tune is billed as a “house cut.” It doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is.
“I hope this makes you wanna dance till your hearts content!” Lipa wrote on Instagram, summing up the song’s substance.
And that it will do. But this song is all Harris.
“The icy post-disco of ‘One Kiss’ recalls past Harris highlights “How Deep Is Your Love” and “This Is What You Came For,” thanks in no smart part to Lipa’s smoky voice gliding over the whole thing,” according to MTV News.
As for Lipa, let’s hope she can do better on her sophomore album.
The English “singer, songwriter and model” is yet another artist whose career was launched by YouTube. She was signed by Warner Records and scored a respectable breakout with her debut self-titled studio album released last June.
Three singles “Be the One,” “IDGAF” and “New Rules” charted in England, with the latter hitting No. 1 in Britain and No. 6 in the United States. It was enough for her to win two Brit Awards for best British Female Solo Artist and best British Breakthrough Act.
She recently revealed that her second album is about experiencing “emotional manipulation.” The brunette beauty explained that the follow-up to her self-titled debut features a lot of songs about heartbreak.
“It’s very much dance crying. It is a pop album that you’re going to be able to dance to, but a lot of the songs are sad. They’re about heartbreak and they’re about going through some emotional manipulation. It kind of sucks that that’s the thing that triggers my creativity, but happy things don’t seem to do it for me.”
