PERMANENTLY CLOSED
Joseph Smith and Rick Passarelli, well-known owners of Bobby Van’s Steakhouse restaurants, have made a mark in the competitive Hamptons restaurant scene with Italian eatery, Sotto Sopra in Amagansett.
The restaurant, which will mark its second summer season, features northern Italian cuisine, as well as the classic steakhouse dishes that Bobby Van’s is known for.
The Main Street space, long-time home of Gordon’s and briefly Exile On Main Street, opened as Sotto Sopra last year. Rose Evangelista, cousin of supermodel Linda Evangelista, oversaw operations, and it quickly became a place to see and be seen.
Celebrity diners included Alec Baldwin, Cameron Diaz, John Slattery and designers Michael Kors and David Yurman.
Two-star Michelin chef, Josh Savi, who previously worked at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin, is back, overseeing the menu of antipasto, insalate, pizza, pranzo, pesce, carne, classico bisteccheria, piatti laterali per due and primi piatti.
Wood-oven pizzas are served on Sunday through Thursday nights, and Sotto Sopra also boasts an original cocktail menu and extensive wine list.
Smith and Passarelli know the Hamptons. They opened the original Bobby Van’s in 1969 in Bridgehampton. They have since expanded to Manhattan and Washington, D.C. They attribute much of their success to superior customer service and quality food.
The restaurant has warm interior, highlighted by cedar-paneled walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that open on an outdoor patio.
Sotto Sopra is open seven days a week for dinner and Saturday and Sunday for brunch.
