The foundation is one of the world’s largest sources of funds for HIV research.
It has raised more than $300 million for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS since its inception in 1992, with offices in offices in New York and London, according to its Web site.
In the Americas, the foundation invests nearly $7 million in more than 120 organizations every year, with half of this focused on the Southern U.S. and the Caribbean.
The organization prides itself on efficiency and getting money where it needs to go.
“In the ’70s and ’80s, I ran a football club in England and I had done a lot of benefits for other people,” John told The New York Times in 2012.
“I saw the hotel rooms and the planes. I’m not stupid. I thought, ‘How are they going to have any money left over?'”
“We kept it small, we kept our eye on the ball,” he said. “My mantra was, ‘Do not waste money.’ ”
Anderson Cooper emceed the event at Cipriani Wall Street, which included a dinner and auction.
Baldwin grabbed some attention on the red carpet when he grabbed spindly Neil Patrick Harris and lifted him in his arms.
The 56-year-old actor, had been accused in the past of making homophobic remarks, but certainly evidence none of those feelings at the event.
Harris attended with husband David Burtka. Baldwin was accompanied by his young wife, Hilaria.
