What do Ariana Grande and Justin Timberlake have in common? When it comes to music, both artists are guilty of using the same producer. Artists who share producers inevitably come up with music that sounds the same, and that’s not good for the business or fans.

Even so, hot producers known for creating hits can write their own tickets.

Grande and Timberlake are both working on new albums with Pharrell Williams, arguably one of the hottest producers going at the moment.

In a new interview, Williams pronounced both upcoming records “amazing.” But you can bet they’ll have the same sound and feel.

The ‘Happy’ hitmaker is also working with his group N.E.R.D. Their long-awaited record, confirmed in 2015, is still in the works.

N.E.R.D’s last album was 2010’s Nothing. The Neptunes (Williams and Chad Hugo), Daft Punk and Jimmy Iovine were listed as producers.

Grande’s last record was 2016’s Dangerous Woman, executive produced by Grande, Max Martin and Savan Kotecha.

Martin has written songs or produced for the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and NSYNC. Some of his early hits include “I Want It That Way” (1999), “…Baby One More Time” (1999) and “It’s My Life” (2000).

Martin has also written, co-written, produced or co-produced such songs as Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” (2008), Maroon 5’s “One More Night” (2012), Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” (2014) and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.”

Timberlake last full-length studio album was 2013’s The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2.

Timberlake shared producing credit with J-Roc, Rob Knox, The Tennessee Kids and Timbaland, one of the most prolific producers in music.
