Lorde, the wildly popular New Zealand singer, has ditched her androgynous clothes for a slinky gown to play the seductress in a new video by English electronic music duo Disclosure. Same voice, same style, but totally different look.
The video ends, however, with a decided twist that meshes completely with Lorde’s ball busting feminism.
Disclosure features brothers Howard Lawrence, 21 and Guy Lawrence, 23, are known for their beat-heavy dance and electronica sound. They broke out in 2012 with their first UK hit “Latch,” With vocals by Sam Smith, the single peaked at No. 11 in the UK.
Their 2013 debut album, Settle, was a critical and commercial smash. It reached No. 1 on the UK albums chart. Their sophomore album, Caracal was released last month. “Magnets” is the second single.
The new video opens with Lorde, real name, Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, at a posh party. She has her eye on a suave man who is flirting heavily with a dark, alluring woman.
In the next scene, Lorde is in his arms and they’re kissing passionately. In fact, she’s all over him. Meantime, his attractive, but forlorn wife is at home.
Lorde’s relationship heats up, literally, until the video ends in burst of flames. But it’s not what you may think. Lorde gives the guy his comeuppance.
