  • Carly Rae Jepsen busts a new video for her bouncy pop tune, ‘Cut to the Feeling.’ (Photo: ScreenCap)

Carly Rae Jepsen cuts loose with a video about making a video for her new tune “Cut to the Feeling.” Not exactly a new concept, but it provides a nice behind-the-scenes look at the singer. Let’s hope she’s as easygoing when the cameras aren’t rolling.

Jepsen’s cute factor is undeniable, but you have to wonder how much longer she can play to a tween audience with her bouncy pop/dance persona.

Fans who fell in love with her when she released her worldwide smash hit “Call Me Maybe” five years ago. She’s older now and so are the fans.

Carly sings “Cut to the Feeling” for the animated movie “Leap!,” a Weinstein Company production that was panned by critics and performed so-so at the box office.

The singer also voiced a character in the movie along with Elle Fanning, Nat Wolff and “Dance Star” Maddie Ziegler.

Ironically, Ziegler, who is 14, acts like she can’t grow up fast enough, while Jepsen–almost old enough to be her mother at 31–doesn’t want to grow up at all.

Jepsen tried to make a break from her bubblegum past with her 2015 album Emotion.

But she didn’t go far enough to attract new fans, while likely alienating her traditional base. The album under-performed in all markets, including her home country Canada.

It’s not like she doesn’t have talent. She’s got loads. She just needs to do a better job defining herself and growing with her audience.

Hopefully one video scene won’t prove telling. During a break, she jokingly says: “If this song fails, at least I can make a good cup of coffee.”

Wow, how did that get in there?

Also featured in the video are musicians David Kalani Larkins, Greta Morgan (Springtime Carnivore) and James Flannigan.
