Canadian crooner Michael Bublé has upended fellow Canadian Justin Bieber for top selling Christmas album, scoring No. 1 on pop charts for the third week in a row. Bieb’s Under the Mistletoe has fallen to No. 4.
Bublé’s Christmas has sold 1.52 million copies after four weeks making it the fourth biggest selling album of the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which tracks record sales.
It’s on track to finish as the second best selling album of the year, behind Adele’s megahit, 21 . More than 5 million copies have been sold. Christmas is expected to top out at around 2.4 million in sales.
Bieber’s Under the Mistletoe debuted at No. 1 on the pop charts, a first for a Christmas album, when it was released in early November.
Since then, it’s sold more than two million albums worldwide.
Buble, 36, says his Christmas album has been a long-time coming but worth the wait.
“I wanted to establish myself as an artist first, so that I could really make a quintessential record,” he told USAToday.
“I’m not going to make another one — this is the Christmas album, not a Christmas album. I put everything I had into this.”
The features one new song “Cold December,” accompanied by mostly chestnuts, such as “Silent Night” and “Santa Baby.”
Bublé also adds a jazz arrangement to “Blue Christmas” and duets with Shania Twain on “White Christmas.”
The Canadian crooner appeared last night (Dec. 17) on Saturday Night Live. Check out the video below:
