Justin Bieber, the unrivaled king of teen pop, has just met his new rivals. The Wanted, a boy band has just landed from the UK, drawing hordes of U.S. fans. Will Justin be brushed aside for the next new thing?
The Canadian teen sensation now has four potential competitors Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes.
They made their U.S. debut on the Ellen De Generes show and appeared on Jay Leno’s Tonight show last night. So far, Justin has embraced the competition.
He gave them a shout out on Twitter after their performance. “Heard you fools killed it on Leno tonight. Gonna check it out. Well done mates!” he wrote.
Music entrepreneur Jayne Collins, who put together bands The Saturdays and Parade, created The Wanted through massive auditions.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records has launched a competing boy band called One Direction. It’s also made up of Irish and British lads culled from the UK version of his show “X-Factor.” They already have a No. 1 hit on the U.S. charts.
While Justin is still the undisputed king, he’s never faced competition like this. One Direction members for example have already landed their own show on Nickelodon. Justin has talked about getting into movies.
The boy bands are credited with creating fan exciting unseen since The Beatles landed in America in 1964 and launched the British Invasion of U.S. music, which sent many popular U.S. groups in decline.
