Ryan “Gooch” Nelson, a New Jersey singer-songwriter, has done the impossible. A quadriplegic who was recently diagnosed with cancer, he’s conjured a rip-snorting, foot-stomping songs for his debut album Comin’ Home. It’s a tribute to anyone who’s undergone personal tragedy. Joe Cocker, who went from and English pub singer to international fame after his moving performance at the Woodstock Music & Arts Festival in 1969, has died from lung cancer, according to his agent. He was 70. Cocker sang a Beatles cover, “With A Little Help From My Friends” at the music event. His performance became an anthem for Woodstock and the counter-culture generation. His other mega-hits included “You Are So Beautiful,” and a moving duet with Jennifer Warnes on the song “Up Where We Belong.”...
Billy Joel, rock’s soulful piano man, made his first solo appearance in New York City in seven years, rocking out a packed Barclays Center in Brooklyn on New Year’s Eve, with some of his classic piano music. “When we opened Barclays Center 13 months ago, Billy was one of the must-have artists for our building and we are thrilled that he will be ringing in the New Year on Brooklyn’s biggest stage,” said Center Chief Executive Brett Yormark in a statement announcing the appearance....
