Ed Sheeran played a captivating acoustic version of The Beatles’ In My Life.’

Before last night, Ed Sheeran was mostly known as Taylor Swift’s opening act, but his moving acoustic performance of The Beatles’ “In My Life,” on last night’s (Feb. 9) CBS’s tribute show, was nothing less than magical.

Sheeran, 22, who was nominated for Best New Artist at the 56th Grammy Awards, performed among giants in music and slayed them with a beat up acoustic guitar.

The show included Stevie Wonder, a reunited Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, E.L.O.’s Jeff Lynne with Dave Grohl, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, Katy Perry, John Legend, Alicia Keys, John Mayer and Keith Urban.

Pharrell Williams, Brad Paisley, Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5 also covered classic Beatles songs.

They all appeared on CBS’s “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles,”
which was taped in January and aired last night (Feb. 9) at in the weirdly timed 6:30 pm slot.

Sheeran’s rendition was so moving, even Sir Paul McCartney, one of two surviving Beatles, was bowled over, calling the performance “Brilliant.”
