Liam Gallagher
, the outspoken and irascible former frontman for the British rock band Oasis, is picking another fight. He’s vowing to “counteract the bullshit” of today’s rock bands with a new album, because they’ve lost their distinctive sounds and drifted into pop music.“I love music as much as anyone. What I see going down is that I’m just ‘leave it out mate, you can do better than that,” he says in a new interview.
“I can’t tell a guitar band from a pop band these days. They’ve got guitars around their necks, but I don’t hear guitars,” he says.
Liam joined Oasis in 1991 along with his brother Noel Gallagher and scored a hit in 1994 with their debut studio album Definitely Maybe.
Released a year later, their second album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? was even bigger. But by then, Liam was almost as well known for his temper tandrums, and bad boy behavior, which made him a tabloid darling.
The band split up in 2009 after Liam and Noel had a falling out. Laim founded another band, Beady Eye, before launching his solo career.
The 44-year-old singer is poised to release his debut solo album, As You Were this fall. He’s said it will challenge the “beige dribble” being spoken by younger rock stars.
“You hear all these bands saying that they’re coming back to save guitar music. I might not be the smartest tool in the shed, but I know you’ve got to put a guitar on a record to save guitar music … and I don’t hear any guitars,” he says.
Liam says he’s returning to music to “counteract the bullshit.”
“That’s what I’m here for and to speak my mind. You read these interviews with so-called rock stars and they need to get off the fence.”
“Nothing interesting ever comes out of their mouths, it’s just beige dribble. They’re afraid to open their mouths in case their little career falls apart. Come on, give us a bit of passion.”
