Coldplay is out with a new single, “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall,” an upbeat guitar-driven tune with lead singer Chris Martin’s soaring voice supported by Will Champion on drums and Johnny Buckland on guitar.
The band released the song on its Web site although whether it will appear on the band’s fifth studio album, produced by Brian Eno, remains to be seen.
The set is being billed as the group’s first concept album and follows their Grammy winning (best rock album) Viva la Vida in 2008.
“It’s from the point of view of two people who are a bit lost,” Martin told the BBC. “Two like-minded outsiders who meet in a very difficult environment and therefore have a journey together.”
Martin has shied away from pegging a release date for the album, but with Eno on board the group is reportedly making solid headway on new songs.
The song is described on the band’s Web site as having a soaring, celebratory tone.
The band will debut the song this weekend at the Rock Im Park festival in Nuremberg, Germany.
They will join Eminem, Foo Fighters and Muse at the Lollapalooza music festival for its 20th anniversary. Lollapalooza will be held at Chicago’s Grant Park on August 5-7.
