Sweet Alaskan singer Jewel is back with a new song from the soundtrack of “Valentine’s Day,” and a new video that could mark yet another direction in her peripatetic career.
“Valentine’s Day” will debut in theaters later this month, with a Hollywood who’s who ensemble cast.
Among those appearing will be: Jessica Alba (who makes a cameo in the video) Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, Taylor Swift, Queen Latifah, Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez and Jamie Foxx.
The movie is about intertwining love stories set against, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day.
The official soundtrack will be released on Feb. 9. Jewel’s “Stay Here Forever,” is the movie’s lead song. It was released as a single on Jan. 19, an is making its way up the country charts.
The soundtrack also includes Taylor Swift’s “Today Was a Fairytale,” which broke the record for highest first-week sales.
Jewel exploded on the music scene with her 1995 debut album, Pieces of You.
Her introspective folk-pop songs and vocal talents drew comparisons to Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos, and her second album, Spirit (1998) also was well received.
But in the years since then she her style has drifted from folk rock and pop to country.
Jewel also published “A Night Without Armor,” a collection of poetry, in 1998 that became a best-seller, and co-starred with Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich in the 1999 film “Ride With the Devil” (directed by Ang Lee).
Her other records include a collection of Christmas songs, Joy: A Holiday Collection (1999), and 2001’s This Way.
