Lincoln Gala Screening at AFI Fest
At this year’s AFI Fest, Spielberg screened “Lincoln” to a capacity crowd. “What we wanted to do, more than anything else, is see Lincoln. Not to worship him, but to understand him close-up,” the 65-year-old director said, during the introduction.
Before the film, Spielberg, screenwriter Tony Kushner, Day-Lewis and most of the movie’s cast and crew attended a cocktail reception at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel across the street.
The film stars Day-Lewis, Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones.
“Lincoln” is produced by Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Kushner, based in part on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
The DreamWorks Pictures/Twentieth Century Fox film, in association with Participant Media, released in limited U.S. theaters on Nov. 9. The film will go into wider release today (Nov. 16).
