Kaia Gerber still can’t vote in any state and could send a man to jail for 20-years-to-life for having sex in most others, because she’s only 17. But that hasn’t stopped Jimmy Choo from tapping her to show off its sexy new campaign.
Gerber has been chomping at the bit to model professionally, ever since she raised eyebrows in highly sexualized campaign for Versace. She was 10-years-old.
Cindy Crawford Daughter Kaia Raises New Red Flags About Underage Models
She was on her way to becoming America’s first pre-teen sex symbol. But the blow-back over the sexualization of young girls short-circuited her career.
Famed supermodel mom Cindy Crawford vowed to keep her off the runway and out of the fashion pages until she was of legal age.
But that didn’t last long.

She was back in Teen Vogue at 13, flashing come-hither looks in what the magazine billed as “Kaia’s “second major photo shoot” as a professional.
Gerber followed up with a very adult photo spread in the July 2015 issue of Vogue Italia by well-known photographer Steven Meisel. One of the photos features her with her legs propped wide open.
Then 14, Gerber was lauded as the next hot model, thanks largely to her mom’s celebrity status and Kaia’s own stunning looks. But critics said Crawford was sending the wrong signal to other young teen models.

She was also criticized for undermining fashion industry efforts to curb the use of underage models on runways and in adult fashion magazines. In Europe models as young as 12 and 13 have been in high demand for fashion editorial shoots.
Kaia Gerber even did a stint in Japan where underage models are typically sent to get some seasoning. She appeared in the Dec 2018 issue of Vogue Japan. She flashes cleavage in Giorgio Armani for photographers Luigi & Iango.
When Kaia turned 16 in September a year ago, she was finally legal according to fashion industry standards. She went on to walk in a knee-wobbling 22 shows in the first three months of the year.
Now, she’s the face (and body) of Jimmy Choo’s spring-summer 2019 campaign. It features logo embroidered sweatshirts and t-shirts.
She poses once again for famed photographer Steven Meisel.
It’s hard to understand why she’s so eager to go to work. Her parents are wealthy enough to support her until she gets a little older, not to mention she’s taking work from models who don’t have that kind of support.
But Kaia apparently gets what Kaia wants.
