Sophie Turner is fast becoming an A-list actress in Hollywood thanks to the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” But she’s still in the dark ages when it comes to equal pay for actors and actresses.

Sophie says in a new interview she has no problem being paid one-third the salary of co-star Kit Harington because she thinks he deserves it. So what is she? Chopped liver?

Harington plays Jon Snow, the bastard son of Ned Stark on the medieval fantasy series. Turner plays Sansa Stark, Ned’s legitimate daughter. She’s also a potential heir to the Iron Throne.

Both characters have been with the show from the beginning and both have emerged as pivotal characters in the show’s final season. It’s set to air this month.

The 23-year-old actress reportedly earns £158,000 British pounds per episode, or about $207,000 in U.S. dollars. Her 32-year-old co-star reportedly makes £537,000 British pounds, or about $704,000 U.S. dollars.

Sophie Turner says Harington has a bigger storyline and had to film more grueling shoots as Jon Snow than she did as Sansa Stark.

“Kit got more money than me, but he had a bigger storyline,” she told the latest UK edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

“For the last series, he had something crazy like 70 night shoots, and I didn’t have that many. I was like, ‘You know what … you keep that money.'”

Nontheless, Turner’s character is just as pivotal to the plot. If she’s getting less screen time, she should still be paid commensurately.

Some of the biggest name actresses have been fighting for pay equality in Hollywood for years. Studios have only begrudgingly began to respond to their demands.

But only a small handful of A-list actresses are paid the same as their male co-stars.

Who gets paid what is typically a closely guarded secret. But every so often the issue bubbles to the surface when egregious pay gaps surface.

Two years ago, for example, Mark Wahlberg was the highest paid actors in Hollywood, earning a reported $68 million. The highest-earning actress, Emma Stone, made $26 million, according to estimates by Forbes magazine.

In yet a more egregious example, Wahlberg reportedly made $1.5 million for “All the Money in the World” re-shoots, while co-star Michelle Williams, an A-list actress, was paid less than $1,000 for the reshoots, according to USAToday.

in the face of a backlash, Wahlberg agreed to donate $1.5 million to the Time’s Up, a group fighting against sexual harassment in Hollywood.

But it didn’t end there. He reportedly made $5 million to star in the film. Co-star Williams was paid $625,000, according to industry trade rag Hollywood Reporter.

Top actresses like Jennifer Lawrence have taken the lead on pay equality.

Like most in Hollywood, her eyes were opened back in 2015 when confidential Sony Pictures emails leaked in the infamous North Korean hacking scandal.

Confidential documents showed she and co-star Amy Adams were paid far less than male co-stars Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner in the movie “American Hustle.”

Actress Charlize Theron was among those who spoke out about the discovery in a subsequent interview.

“When I thought about the temperature out there–with finding out what Jennifer and Amy were being paid on a set with guy actors who are their counterpart–they’re just as good as any of the guys on there,” she said.

Yeah, that pissed me off!” she told the UK issue of Elle magazine. Theron said she subsequently demanded equal pay with Chris Hemsworth for “Snow White and the Huntsman.” And, got it.

Following the leak, Lawrence also wrote a compelling essay on the problem in Lenny magazine.

“When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself,” she wrote.

She concluded with her nut graph:

Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, and Bradley Cooper all fought and succeeded in negotiating powerful deals for themselves. If anything, I’m sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share. Again, this might have NOTHING to do with my vagina, but I wasn’t completely wrong when another leaked Sony email revealed a producer referring to a fellow lead actress in a negotiation as a “spoiled brat.” For some reason, I just can’t picture someone saying that about a man.

Now along comes Sophie Turner and says getting paid less is all right by her. She is only 23 years old. Perhaps, her attitude can be attributed to her youthful naivete.

But someone should clue her in that she’s not only speaking for herself but for lesser known, up-and-coming actresses who are still subject to exploitation in Hollywood.
