  • Frank Ocean has been forced to curtail his European tour, including a much anticipated pairing with British band Coldplay, because of unspecified vocal problems. He’s the latest singer to suffer voice problems.

Singers are undertaking grueling tours, now the largest source of their earnings, but many are paying a price because of the strain on their vocal chords, not to mention their health.

“A tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour,.” Ocean said in a statement, after bailing on the Way Out West music festival.

Ocean worked as a songwriter for such artists as Brandy, Justin Bieber and John Legend before launching his own career in 2010. He is a member of the Odd Future hip-hop collective. He appeared with Kanye West and Jay-Z during their “Watch the Throne” tour.

His debut studio album, Channel Orange, was released in July, as a digital download exclusively on iTunes before going into wide release.

Ocean shocked fans and the hip-hop world when he announced that he is gay and is dating a man.
