  • Rapper Eminem had to feel somewhat disappointed after being nominated for 10 awards and walking away with only two, but he didn’t let it interfere with his dynamic Love the Way You Lie duet with Rihanna.

Eminem gave a powerhouse performance with the pop star and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine on the piano.

Slim Shady also performed “I Need a Doctor,” with mentor Dr. Dre and folk musician Skylar Grey.

If any conclusions can be drawn from the night it’s that Eminem dominates rap music, but without more cross-over appeal, the conservative Grammy voters will always find a reason to pass over him for the big awards.

    Nonetheless, his performance was powerful.

Dr. Dre’s made his first performance on stage in a decade, according to MTV.

Skylar Grey haunting vocals from the shadows fueled the performance.

“It was amazing,” Grey told reporters backstage. “I’ve never played on a stage that big with an audience that vast.”

Known more as a songwriter than a performer, Grey wrote Rihanna’s part in “Love The Way You Lie.”

“It was pretty [much] what Eminem wrote his verses about,” she said of the chorus. “Not as extreme, but same concept.”

Skylar also wrote the verse she sang in Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor.”

“I wrote the chorus to ‘Love The Way You Lie’ … and then he asked me to come and work on Dr. Dre’s album too,” she said.
