Acclaimed bassist/composer Robert Miller and his band Project Grand Slam, have released a video of their new song, “I’m Falling Off Of The World,” an anthem for those locked down in isolation by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Music is a powerful healing force at all times, and is even more important now given the severity of the current crisis”, said Miller, an acclaimed bassist and composer.

“We felt that this song may help keep peoples’ spirits up at a time when we’re all desperate to return to normal. As the song says, ‘we ‘re gonna make it through somehow.'”

Released exclusively in The New York Independent, the video’s featured song was written by Miller and recorded by the New York jazz, rock and latin fusion band before the pandemic shut down the world.

Joining Miller are Marilyn Castillo, vocals, Marcello Casagrandi, keyboards, Tristan Clark, guitar, Baden Goyo, keyboards, Joel E. Mateo, drums, Guillermo Barron Rios, percussion, and Alex Blade Silver on saxophone.

The song’s message of optimism in the face of a world gone mad is perfectly suited to the situation. As the chorus says:

Life used to be so much easier to take
But that’s not how it feels right now
Keep your head up and don’t dwell upon the past
We’re gonna make it through somehow

“I wrote the song last fall, well before we even heard of the coronavirus. It was about my frustration at so many of the bad things going on in our world,” said Miller via an email.

” Once the virus hit, however, and our way of life was thrown totally off course, I realized that the key message of the song, ‘we’re gonna make it through somehow,’was applicable to the awful situation that we’re all living with.

“So the video is very important to me. I’m proud of the song, but I’m also stoked about offering a message of hope and optimism for our world at this juncture,” he said.

The video was recorded remotely by each of the band members and then edited together in a living-room-style session (See below)

The song is included on the band’s forthcoming album, East Side Sessions, scheduled for release later this year. The album features 12 new songs written by Miller plus a cover of “I Wanna Be Your Girl”, their “re-imagined” and renamed version of a Beatles song.

Project Grand Slam has released 8 acclaimed albums including a Billboard #1 (Trippin’ (2018)). It has over 3 million video views.

The band has performed at numerous festivals and major venues in the United States and outside the country.

PGS has opened for such artists as Blues Traveler, Edgar Winter, Boney James and Mindi Abair and has been featured in an episode of NBC’s “Lipstick Jungle,” starring Brooke Shields.

    Lyrics:
    This world keeps spinning round
    Sometimes we’re upside down
I’m falling off of the world

    So many things to fix
We need a bag of tricks
I’m falling off of the world
    .
Life used to be so much easier to take
But that’s not how it feels right now
Keep your head up and don’t dwell upon the past
We’re gonna make it through somehow

    The children ask us why
It makes me want to cry
I’m falling off of the world

    The clock ticks every day
    Don’t throw our chance away
I’m falling off of the world

Life used to be so much easier to take
But that’s not how it feels right now
Keep your head up and don’t dwell upon the past
We’re gonna make it through somehow
