Ringo Starr, who became a rock and roll legend as drummer for The Beatles in the 1960s, has added his insights into the split between Zayn Malik and One Direction. They will survive, he says. But, hey, they’re not really a band are they?

Starr, who was interviewed by the Irish Independent newspaper, also delivered a bit of a backhand diss of the Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan.

“I don’t think it will stop the band, he said, before quizzically adding,”They’re not really a band are they? They’re singing boys who dance.”

“You know he must have all his own good reasons for doing it” he said. “One direction is going in another direction.”

Starr has another appointment with destiny coming up. He’ll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist by his good pal and fellow ex-Beatle Paul McCartney.

He was previously inducted as part of The Beatles.

“I know exactly what happened – Paul McCartney was hanging out with some people and for some reason my name cam up and they were talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they realised I wasn’t in it.”

“I believe one of them was Dave Grohl and he called Springsteen. This is the story I’ve heard. Anyway, I feel Paul wanted a day out so he’s nominted me so I’m up and I’m getting it and he’s going to, you know, do me.”
