  • Katy Perry debuted a raucous new anthem at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards last night (Feb. 12) that seemed to target her recent break up with husband of 14 months Russell Brand. But is it really?

The song, with a driving dance beat, is all about self-esteem and self-empowerment after a break up. Katy put on a powerful performance.

While the lyrics seemed to focus on a bad breakup, her divorce from Brand was said to be amicable and the two have show mutual respect for each other. If there have been bitter recriminations, the song is the first to signal them.

Katy opened with the first few verses from her hit song “E.T. (Alien)” off her Teenage Dream album. But the stage cut to black and after a moment of silence, Perry, 27, emerged at the top of the stage.

The first refrains of her new song started and she launched into her new single “Part of Me.” She sported blue hair and an outfit that made her look like Sheena, Warrior Princess. The lyrics definitely had an edge.

Days like this I want to drive away.
Pack my bags and watch your shadow fade.’
Cause you chewed me up and spit me out
Like I was poison in your mouth.
You took my light, you drained me down.
That was then and this is now. Now look at me

The song is all about a girl who is dumped by a guy and decides to emerge a stronger person.

The couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement before they married, and Brand reportedly turned down any interest in the money Katy made while they were married, said to total around $40 million.

We’re told both felt comfortable one wouldn’t screw the other in the event of a divorce — they both knew where the other person stood on money, life, religion … everything,” a source told gossip site TMZ.

Check out her performance below, and the lyrics to her song.

    Part of Me

Days like this I want to drive away. Pack my bags and watch your shadow fade.’ Cause you chewed me up and spit me outLike I was poison in your mouth. You took my light, you drained me down.
That was then and this is now. Now look at me

This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no

    Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your blows
But you’re not gonna break my soul
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no

I just wanna throw my phone away
Find out who is really there for me
‘Cause you ripped me off, your love was cheap
Was always tearing at the seams
I fell deep and you let me drown
But that was then and this is now
    Now look at me

This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
    Throw your sticks and stones

Throw your bombs and your blows
But you’re not gonna break my soul
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no

Now look at me, I’m sparkling
    A firework, a dancing flame
You won’t ever put me out again
    I’m glowing, oh woah oh
You can keep the dog from me
    I never liked him anyway
In fact you can keep everything
    Yeah, yeah
    Except for me

This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
    Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your blows
But you’re not gonna break my soul
This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no

This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no
