  • Lana Del Rey doesn’t quite rap on her new song “National Anthem.” Let’s just say she speak-sings the new single, which will be released officially in July, just in time for the Fourth of July.

Although, it’s unlikely she had the national holiday in mind when she recorded the tune, the fourth off her album Born to Die.

Although widely panned by critics, the album has done exceedingly well. It’s sold more than two million copies worldwide.

Del Rey has a distinctive singing style, fashion model looks and a cool sophistication that’s surprisingly not overbearing.

Her insouciance was evident when she blew off the critics and her weak performance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” After the show, many critics pronounced her career over. But it really seems to be just beginning.

Del Rey looked ultra sophisticated on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and sex-siren beautiful in a long gown. If she wants a movie career, she can probably have one.

The singer is currently filming the video for “National Anthem.” Her previous videos have been kind of surreal, cinema vérité clips. Shot mostly in black and white, her video for “Blue Jeans” have had a haunting feel. Bradley Soileau has had a recurring role in them.

She’s expected to tour in October. Check out her new song below.
