  • JustinTimberlake-mirrorJustin Timberlake’s smooth pop sound just keeps oozing out. He’s released his latest song “Mirrors” from his upcoming album The 20/20 Experience. It’s an eight-minute opus with a full orchestra, perhaps his most ambitious on the new set.

Timberlake marked his return to music with a live performance at the Grammy Awards Sunday night. It was his first appearance there since 2009.

You may recall, he and Al Green were enlisted at the last minute to fill in for Chris Brown and Rihanna, who failed to show following their domestic assault incident.

On Sunday, he performed two songs “Suit & Tie” and “Pusher Lover Girl,” from 20/20 . Then he hit the nearby Palladium for a sold-out mini-concert, according to the LA Times. He unveiled a third song “That Girl,” at the concert and dropped “Mirror” online yesterday.

At eight-minutes in length, “Mirror” ranges widely. It starts off with a flourish of violins and backing from an orchestra and drifts into a R&B sound, with a steady, thumping bass line and a swaying dance beat.

The new album is supposedly pop- and jazz-influenced with top to Frank Sinatra’s smooth styling. It’s hard to see how this album will fly with his fans, who have been waiting for more Timberlake music since 2008.

He’s been mostly focused on his movie career since then, although he’s written songs for other artists and done some collaborations.
