Miley Cyrus continues her transformation, including a new musical direction.

Miley Cyrus has promised a new musical direction with her upcoming album, and she delivers with her new release, ‘We Can’t Stop.’ The country darling has added a decidedly urban edge with a clear reggae lilt. Can it save her career?

Miley, 20, has been distancing herself from her country roots ever since she jettisoned her Hannah Montana looks for an edgier and sexier style.

With the release of her third studio album, Can’t Be Tamed, in 2010, Miley showed more hard rock influences. It was her first real departure from her Hannah Montana days.

Miley considered the album sort of a declaration of independence, but her Hannah Montana fans didn’t know quite what to make of her. The album was her worst selling ever. To date, it’s only sold around 350,000 copies, well below even gold certification, according to the RIAA.

Miley Cyrus Can’t Stop Looking Hot

Normally, that would signal the death knell for a teen pop star, but Miley never looked back. She radically changed her look and landed at No. 1 on Maxim’s Hot 100 list. Meanwhile, her relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth has kept her in the news.

The question is can Miley hold on to her Hannah Montana fans, who are growing up with her, and add new fans with her new look and style.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing special about the song’s lyrics. It’s another party-all-night anthem, a la Pink, Ke$ha and even Madonna.

Miley turned to hip-hop producer Mike WiLL Made It for her new sound. He’s best known for club hits like Kanye West’s “Mercy.” Hit-Boy and Pharrell also get production credits. Justin Bieber may also turn up on her fourth studio album.
