R&B singer Cee Lo Green, who stars as a judge on “The Voice,” has been hit with a sexual assault allegation and may have a tough time dodging formal charges.
A woman filed a police report claiming that Green, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, drugged her, dragged her back to his apartment and had sex with her while she was unconscious.
Green denied the allegations. He’s been accused of being sexually aggressive in the past, but has always vehemently denied allegations and has never been charged. But this time could be different, according to gossip site TMZ.
Los Angeles police department investigators asked the woman to make a tape-recorded “pretext call.” That’s where a victim tries to get a perpetrator to admit all or part of the alleged crime while the call is being recorded. Cee Lo took the bait, or at least part of it.
The 38-year-old singer admitted slipping the woman some Ecstasy, a well-known club drug, and apologized for doing it over and over again. But he does not say he put it in her drink, according to TMZ.
The woman claims she went out to dinner with the singer in downtown Los Angeles. She recalled having a drink but went blank after that, until the next day. She said she woke up in Green’s bed naked with him in the room.
The problem with the case is the incident occurred in July and there are questions about when the woman, who does not live in California, reported the incident.
The woman almost immediately went to her local law enforcement agency where she lives and reported the incident. The matter was eventually referred to LA police who will forward their findings to the County District Attorney’s Office, according to TMZ.
The move is standard operating procedure, and the DA will determine if charges are warranted.
