Former Beatle Paul McCartney played a three-night sold out concert at the new home of the New York Mets in July, to not only christen the stadium but to reprise the Beatles historic concert at Shea Stadium in 1965. The shows will be the focus of an upcoming CD/DVD set titled Good Evening New York City.

McCartney’s Citi shows featured solo and Wings hits, Beatles classics, new tracks from his side project the Fireman. A number of songs reprise the Fab Four’s original Shea shows.

McCartney played 33-songs, during his two-hour plus sets, which were captured on 15 high-definition cameras.
The production also handed out 75 flipcams to the audience to capture all angles of McCartney’s performance. More than 100,000 people attended.

Billy Joel’s opening night cameo appearance during the encore is included.

Joel was returning the favor. McCartney appeared at Joel’s Last Play at Shea concert, before Shea Stadium was demolished. The Beatles pioneered stadium-size concerts.

The deluxe edition will feature both expanded packaging and a bonus DVD of McCartney performing atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York on July 15th.

While the performance was filmed for Late Show With David Letterman, the DVD will include the performance of some songs that weren’t broadcast.

Good Evening New York City will be released on November 17th via Hear Music.
