  • AMERICAN IDOL: Pictured L-R: Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson at the New York auditions of AMERICAN IDOL airing on the two-night premiere Wednesday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Jan. 17 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). CR: Michael Becker / FOX.Mariah Carey has finally released the full track for “Almost Home” from the “Oz Great and Powerful” soundtrack. It’s the version that will go to radio and will be featured in a David LaChapelle directed video.

The mid-tempo song, backed by a full orchestra, is timed to coincide with the Disney film’s wide release on Mar. 8. Carey gets co-writing credit with Simone Porter, Justin Gray and Lindsey Ray.

The movie premiered at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day. The film stars Mila Kunis, James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff.

Carey calls “Almost Home” a feel-good song. “It gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love,” she explained in a statement.

It was recorded in New York City at Roc The Mic Studios and was co-produced by Stargate team Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. It will likely be included on her new album, expected later this year.

Carey last major soundtrack hit was a duet with Whitney Houston on “When You Believe” for “The Prince of Egypt.” But oddly the soundtrack from her own movie, “Glitter,” was considered a flop.

Danny Elfman composed the original music for the movie. Check out Mariah’s tune and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest music updates.
