  • mariahcarey-almosthomeMariah Carey released a tease of her song “Almost Home from the “Oz Great and Powerful” soundtrack. It has a big sound to match her big voice, but whether it will be as memorable as “Over the Rainbow” from the 1939 classic remains to be seen.

Carey, who is known for her soaring vocals and five-octave range, holds nothing back on the track.

The song will be released to radio on Feb. 19 and will be featured in a David LaChapelle directed video, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie premiered at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day.

Her new single is timed to coincide with the Disney film’s wide release on Mar. 8. Carey gets co-writing credit with Simone Porter, Justin Gray and Lindsey Ray.

It was recorded in New York City at Roc The Mic Studios and was co-produced by Stargate team Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. It will likely be included on her new album, expected later this year.

Carey calls “Almost Home” a feel-good song. “It gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love,” she explained in a statement.

The original 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer classic, based on the 1900 novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ by L. Frank Baum, was a musical that generated a number of memorable classics. “Over the Rainbow” sung by Judy Garland is by far the most famous.
