But she came into her own at a high profile performance as part of NBC’s holiday special, “A White House Christmas.” She belted out the popular chestnut “All I Want for Christmas is You,” a risky pick since Mariah Carey just revived the 1966 song as part of her Christmas album. Nonetheless, Demi pulled off the song with aplomb by singing more of a classic arrangement compared with Mariah’s up-tempo pop treatment. The set off a Internet buzz after one of the songs played last night in New York City sparked rumors it was about Miley Cyrus. Or, Maybe not. Swift is notorious about writing not-so-flattering songs about relationships that result in bad breakups, including Joe Jonas. The 23-year-old singer dated Swift from July to October 2008 and blew her off with a telephone call after hooking up with actress Camilla Belle. Swift supposedly wrote songs “Forever and Always,” “Last Kiss” and “Better than Revenge” based on the breakup....

Miley Cyrus is showing growing maturity in her singing style with the release of another standard, “Look What They’ve Done With My Song, Ma.” It’s part of her “Backyard Sessions,” recorded over the summer, “BH,” i.e. before haircut. Cyrus, 19, sings backed by an acoustic band. The music is stripped down and she sails on the power of her voice and her emotional delivery. Miley recorded the songs during the early summer with Stacy Jones on drums, Mike Schmid on piano, Jamie Arentzen on guitar, Jaco Curaco on Guitar and Vashon Johnson on Bass.
