de Luze et Fils Grand Fine Champagne Cognac 1820

A bottle of 1820 A. De Luze et Fils grand fine champagne cognac is one of the highlights of a fine wine auction in Boston next month. Wines from Bordeaux, Napa, Burgundy and the Champagne region of France will also be featured.

The two-part live and online auction, May 4 through May 13, will included more than 950 lots.

The négociant bottling of the vintage cognac likely took place in the 1840s. It’s possibly the oldest existing example of the distinctive de Luze bottle, estimated to be worth $2,000 to $3,000.

Of particular note will be first growth horizontal lot wines from 2000 with an estimated value between $45,000 and $65,000. The lot includes one case of each from the five first growths in the Medoc region of France – Haut Brion, Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Mouton Rothschild, according to Skinner, which specializes in antiques and fine art sales.

The year 2000 was an instant classic in Bordeaux with all five first growth chateaux producing stellar wines that will forever be compared to those from 2005 and 2009, according to the auctioneer.

Cases of 2009 Bordeaux are well represented and include a Chateau Montrose, valued at $3,000 to $4,500, a Chateau Duhart Milon, valued at $800 to $1,200 and a Chateau Pontet Canet, valued at $2,400 to $3,600.

A collection of 12 bottles of 1982 Mouton Rothschild, estimated value $9,000 to $14,000 are also up for sale. They were bought on release by a wine enthusiast and stored in a custom built home cellar maintained at 55 degrees.

Legendary 2005 vintage wines from the Cote d’Or region of France includes a superb bottle of Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes, estimated value $500 to $700, and a Bernard Dugat-Py Charmes Chambertin, $1,000 to $1,500.

Six bottles of Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares, $1,000 to $1,500, and nine bottles of Bouchard Pere & Fils Clos Vougeot, $900 to $1,400, are also up for sale.
