Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, better known as the duo “Heart” gave the rock performance of the year in my opinion during the Kennedy Center Honors for seminal rock band Led Zeppelin. Their rendition of “Stairway To Heaven,” with full orchestration and chorus moved Robert Plant to tears.

It’s been a long time coming for the band, and for rock music. Plant, guitar virtuoso Jimmy Page and keyboardist John Paul Jones savored the moment.

It was a shame that original drummer John Bonham couldn’t be there. He died in 1980, but his son, Jason, played drums on the tribute.

The Wilson’s Heart was a monster group in the ’80s, with such signature songs like “Barracuda,” “These Dreams,” “What About Love” and “Straight On.” They sold more than 30 million records.

They’ve been out of the limelight for awhile, but their performance was awe inspiring. Ann Wilson literally tore the roof off the show and brought Zeppelin-front man Plant in tears.

Kid Rock also performed a Zeppelin classic “Ramble On” and Lenny Kravitz sang “Whole Lotta Love.”

The Kennedy-audience, which had everyone from Charlie Rose to Tina Fey and Herbie Hancock in attendance, were literally gyrating in their seats. What a moment!

I don’t know if it’s even possible, but that would make a great single. How about it?
