Vocalist Andrea Capozzoli has established herself on the Soul/R&B music scene. She was named “Female R&B Artist of the Year” at the New York International Music Festival. Catch her at Cafe Vivaldi for an acoustic show, June 30.
Andrea’s band includes guitarist Casper Gyldense, bassist Raymond Alex Smith and drummer Rob Mitzner.
Andrea has opened for the likes of Steely Dan, Sister Sledge and Jessica Simpson, and shared the stage with Slide Hampton, Ronnie Laws and Bernard Purdie among others.
From the driving funky energy of the track “Something About You Baby”, to the sultry gospel ballad “If I Only Knew,” Andrea’s music switches seamlessly between vocals, trumpet and keyboards.
The band toured Europe last summer, and played at New York’s historic Blue Note Jazz Club.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Andrea got an early start as a musician, studying vocals with Cheryl Bentyne (Manhattan Transfer), Kevin Mahogany, and Maureen Budway. Andrea is also on the faculty at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and had the honor of performing for President Barack Obama’s Boston Inaugural Ball in 2008.
In addition to her upcoming live schedule, which includes a date at the prestigious Beantown Jazz Festival, Andrea and the band will be returning to the studio this summer to record tracks for her new EP.
“We’re talking really pretty soul music people, the kind you really like. Then in about a year when everybody’s talking about her, you can say how you saw her back in the day, writes Gary Lime for PMZ magazine
