Katy Perry has no plans to avoid the People’s Choice Awards this month because of her divorce from Russell Brand, and apparently won’t face any awkward moments. He’s been “disinvited.”
In a controversial move, UK tabloids report that the British comedian has been uninvited from the celebrity-heavy awards show to avoid embarrassing estranged wife Katy.
Perry has a lot of incentive to keep the date. She is up for seven honors, from Favorite Female Artist to Song of the Year for “E.T.”
Katy Perry Divorce May Cost Her
She is also coming off the most successful year of her career. Her California Dreams tour was a sellout. She also tied Michael Jackson by scoring five No. 1 singles from the same album on the charts.
The unanswered question is whether Katy Perry will talk about the divorce. Brand, her husband of 14 months, filed legal papers on Dec. 30 to end the marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Perry is also expected to attend the Grammy’s in February, music’s premiere event. She’s been nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Brand was scheduled to attend the events with Perry, but London’s Mirror newspaper reports that he is off the list.
Katy Perry Does Elvis Proud
“It will be Katy’s big night, a prelude to the Grammys, and now Russell has been strangely left off the list of attendees for the high-profile event,” a source told the tabloid.
“It was always going to be awkward for organizers in any case after their shock decision to split. But in order to avoid any awkwardness or confrontation Russ is no longer on the list.”
Indeed, Perry is just getting over the shock of the divorce. “The plan was for Katy and Russell to have the holidays apart, then see if they wanted to go through with a separation,’ a source told UsWeekly.
