  • bret_michaelsPoison’s Bret Michael’s captured the top prize on “Celebrity Apprentice” after a near brush with death from a brain hemorrhage, followed by a mild stroke. He has made a miraculous recovery since, but put his life in peril again to make the show.

Apprentice host, Donald Trump, had no idea if Michaels would make it to the show until hours before air time. The finale was live.

But a beaming Trump said at the top of the show: “I’m happy to announce Bret Michaels is here with us tonight.”

Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete beat out 12 other celebrities, including Sharon Osbourne and Cyndi Lauper, to win in the finale.

The rocker gingerly appeared somewhat hobbled as he walked onto the stage and was greeted with hugs from other contestants.

The audience gave him a standing ovation after he revealed that his doctors didn’t want him to be on the show.

“Lately, it seems that me just standing up is risking my life,” he said.

“It’s been a risk, but I wanted to be here tonight.” The rocker won $250,000 for his diabetes charity from beverage company Snapple.

Since his hemorrhage, the 47-year-old singer has made a miraculous recovery.

He initially pulled out of the show briefly when he underwent an emergency appendectomy in April.

But Michaels was felled again on April 21 after complaining of a severe headache and was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors discovered that a blood vessel had ruptured at the base of his brain, causing dizziness, slurred speech and some loss of the use of his arms and legs.

Michael’s condition was touch and go for five days, but his recovery was swifter than expected.

Then, he suffered another setback when he had a mild stroke, unrelated to his hemorrhage. Doctor’s discovered he had a hole in his heart, which will require another operation to fix.

But none of that kept Michaels from jetting to New York for The Apprentice finale .

Some concerns were raised earlier that Michaels was rushing his recovery.

On the way to New York, he was forced to stop in Nashville because of a headache, lower back pain and cramping in his legs.

After medical attention, he reboarded the private jet and arrived in New York safely.
