  • Adele appears to have shed substantial weight after her surgery for a throat ailment according to a new photo she released over Twitter.

The top-selling UK singer’s health has been a major subject of concern because the surgery involved growths on her golden vocal chords.

The 23-year-old is wearing her trademark beehive hairdo and heavy eye makeup, but her face looks substantially leaner.

“The operation was a success and I’m just chilling out now until I get the all-clear from my doctors,” she wrote on her Web site.

Adele was operated on by the same doctor who operated on Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler’s vocal chords.

Even minor throat surgery can be extremely painful, because of the sensitive tissues and irritation caused by both food, stomach acids and the outside air.

Her operation and likely a loss of appetite probably caused the weight loss.

“Back on the grind. Hair and make up did. Merry Christmas! Axx” the photo caption read.

Indeed, it’s been a big year for the singer. Her album 21 was the best selling of 2011 and the Associated Press just named it the top album of the year.

“When an artist has delivered an album that is as close to perfection as 21, where else would it fall?” the news service reported.

“On 21, Adele comes of age as an artist, a songwriter and one of music’s great voices.”

Adele, who is normally a size 16 has no qualms about her weight.

“I enjoy being me; I always have,” she told Vogue in September.

“I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life.”
