  • carrie-underwoodCarrie Underwood has switched leagues — and sports for that matter — and has become engaged to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, after previously dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Underwood recently slammed Romo for being obsessed with football and neglecting her during their relationship.

Fisher, 29, reportedly proposed to the 26-year-old singer at his home Sunday afternoon, (Dec. 29) before sharing the news with his friends later that day.

“I’m happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn’t be happier,” her rep confirmed to People magazine. “No wedding date has been set at this time.”

“It’s true. We’re both obviously excited and very happy,” the NHL hockey brute told the Ottawa Sun newspaper.

The couple has been dating for the past year, but have kept their relationship on the down low.

News of the engagement first leaked on Twitter Sunday night after a friend of Underwood’s family congratulated the couple on their upcoming nuptials in  a tweet to Fisher.

Underwood, however,  gave her future husband a gushy mention on the liner notes of her new album, Play On.

“Thank you #12,” she wrote, a reference to Fisher’s jersey number.

“You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day… xoxo, Carrie.”

Can’t get anymore heartfelt that than. But Underwood has no love lost for old flame Romo.

When asked by Esquire magazine whether her hit song, “Cowboy Casanova,” was about the NFL quarterback, she basically said she wouldn’t dignify him with a song, good or bad.

“No. I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong,” Underwood said. “I would never give him that much credit.”

Underwood won the fourth season of Fox’s  “American Idol,” and  has gone on to a stellar career as a country music performer. She briefly dated the Cowboy in 2007.

“Point blank, [Romo] is about football,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s that I’m not quite his type or whatever, but I don’t think he’s at the point in his life where he would be willing to sacrifice football,” she said.

Wow, sounds like she was demanding a lot, since the entire franchise rides on his shoulders. Romo later dated Jessica Simpson, who fans claimed jinxed the team.

Oddly, the singer complained that life was lonely once she stepped off stage, even though she was dating Fisher at the time.
